Watercone - Turning salt water to fresh water using only the sun

Date August 13, 2007

The Sietch Blog has a great writeup on a new device called the Watercone. It is a plastic cone that can be placed over the salty water and put in the sun. The water then condenses and drips down the side of the cone to collect in the small resevoirs at the bottom of the cone. At the end of the day the whole thing can be flipped upside down and viola! fresh water ready for consumption.

This is such a simple and elegent solution to getting freshwater to places that normally wouldn’t have it. This would also be a great thing to have in your disaster preparation kit. When fresh water is hard to find, you can’t beat making your own using the power of the sun.
